TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading.”  These worthy causes have inspired the TEDx talk Amy will be giving on April 16th.  Learn more about these causes that are most certainly “worth spreading!”

The Trauma Center is a program of Justice Resource Institute (JRI), a large nonprofit organization dedicated to social justice by offering hope and promise of fulfillment to children, adults, and families who are at risk of not receiving effective services essential to their safety, progress, and/or survival.

American Mental Health Foundation  (AMHF) has endeavored to advocate for and to advance mental health and well-being in society. As a research organization, it is dedicated to the welfare of people suffering from emotional problems and mental illness, with a particular concern for individuals of all ages with special needs as well as elders.

Mental Health America is the nation’s largest and oldest community-based network dedicated to helping all Americans achieve wellness by living mentally healthier lives. With over 200 affiliates across the country, we touch the lives of millions—advocating for changes in mental health and wellness policy; educating the public and providing critical information; and delivering urgently needed mental health and wellness programs and services. End Violence Against Women  is the only organization dedicated to improving the criminal justice response to violence against women on every level — within the professions tasked with responding to victims and across society as a whole.We envision a world where gender- based violence is unacceptable, where perpetrators are held accountable, and victims receive the compassion, support, and justice they deserve.

One Love works with young people across the country to raise awareness about the warning signs of abuse and activate communities to work to change the statistics around relationship violence. 

NOW-NYC gives women a powerful voice, doing work to secure economic empowerment, promote reproductive rights, end violence against women, and build women’s leadership. End Rape on Campus  (EROC) works to end campus sexual violence through direct support for survivors and their communities; prevention through education; and policy reform at the campus, local, state, and federal levels.

Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Eastern CT provides counseling and crisis intervention services to victims of sexual violence (over one third of our clients are children).

Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence, Inc. works to end sexual violence and ensure high quality, comprehensive and culturally competent sexual assault victim services.

Young Women’s Leadership Network a not-for-profit organization, was created to make our programming available to more students.  YWLN supports two programs that provide college readiness and college access to low-income public school students: The Young Women’s Leadership Schools (TYWLS) and CollegeBound Initiative (CBI).

Toivo by Advocacy Unlimited is a wellness initiative in CT that focuses on bringing holistic healing modalities to persons currently struggling with or in recovery from mental health and/or substance use issues, as well as the general population. Toivo represents a celebration of human experience in all of its forms and a belief in the unfathomable power of looking within for direction.

United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc. (UOAA) promotes quality of life for people with ostomies and continent diversions through information, support, advocacy and collaboration. Our 300+ affiliated ostomy support groups, organized by volunteers throughout the United States, provide the opportunity for local, in-person support. We work toward a society where people with ostomies and intestinal or urinary diversions are universally accepted and supported socially, economically, medically, and psychologically.  Amy has written for their official publication.
