“I have been given access to as part of a product review through the Chronic Illness Bloggers network. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company. ”

I’m especially excited to share this new find, because it comes from my home state!  Some wonderful doctors and innovators founded PatientBank in New Haven, Connecticut!

But that’s not the only reason why Patient Bank feels so comfortable and safe with something that can feel very overwhelming – finding you medical records…especially mine! (Have you SEEN my medical history?)  The company pulls patients’ medical records from hospitals across the nation and collects them in one place. Patients are then able to request all their medical records online and receive them in approximately 10 days.  And really, it’s that easy.

So here was their claim:

“PatientBank is a service that helps patients gather, store and share their medical records. Patients, especially those with a chronic illness, are beginning to see the importance of self advocacy and having greater control over their health – and at PatientBank, we think that starts with giving patients ownership over their data.”

I really need ownership over my own data.  It’s a scary world of information out there, and I’ve learned over time that in the medical world, you need to be your own advocate.

How is this service useful to the patient community?
“At its core, PatientBank has three major features that are critical for patients who want to manager their own data: medical record retrieval, secure online storage, and sharing.”

Medical record retrieval –
“Using PatientBank, patients can gather their medical records from any hospital or doctor’s office in the country. Patients fill out an HIPAA compliant authorization that is sent to their hospital asking them to send the records to PatientBank. PatientBank staff then follows up and retrieves all the information requested. Once it is returned to PatientBank, you receive an email that the records are ready to view, download and share.”

Secure online storage –
“Once PatientBank gathers the records, they are stored securely for the patient in the cloud. This means patients can access their records from any device that has internet access. You can think of it like Dropbox for medical records.”

Security is one of the biggest worries on my mind when I’m dealing with pulling up medical records.  PatientBank is making some amazing claims…and wow, did PatientBank impress!

I thought this was a wonderful idea executed extremely well! I love the idea that you don’t have to search everywhere for your records – they are ALL in one place and can be accessed anytime! And also, in case my own medical issues aren’t enough, I can manage my family’s there too!

The fee for all of this makes perfect sense and is also very affordable – especially because the site is so secure – and you cannot beat the convenience! For all of the doctors I go to, this is saving me so much time and stress!  This was a great find. Thanks PatientBank!
