When Life Sucks…or, eh, detours.
I call my ten year surgical PTSD-ridden marathon my beautiful detour.  Crazy right?
No, not at all.
Burst from Bark
I love my detour so much I’ve made a hashtag out of it.  I was inspired by an amazing survivor, author and all around good guy Josh Rivedale, who is launching a book this winter chock-full of stories of people that have put the I in IMpossible.  If your story isn’t in the book, it’s an even better reason to join the movement with the #impossible hashtag.

What Hard Times Force Us To Do…
…is explore new opportunities.  Josh is someone I never would have met if it wasn’t for my own detour.  I grew up in musical theatre.  I had no idea people were using the art of theatre for social change, to make an impact, to help people in more ways than tap-dancing and jazz-hands – although that is very fun too.
I could name 100 lessons I’ve learned, things I’ve experienced, people I’ve met, and gifts I’ve uncovered simply because I “planned” and life screwed with my agenda.  But instead, I’d like to show you what this detour has been in my life:
Treasure Tree
It’s led me to new discoveries and events that have made me who I am today.  And that’s why I love my detour.  Or…#lovemydetour.

Tell me about your detour!
So now I want to hear your own stories.  Show me your detour.  Draw it, write me, comment here.  Tweet me @amyoes, send me a pic on Instagram @amyoes70 – anything! #lovemydetour
Just in time for each Why Not Wednesday I’ll be sharing your beautiful detours.  If you’re interested in writing a longer story, or a guest post about your winding journey, send me a note.

So go on now – get lost – literally!  And when you end up somewhere unexpected, look around at all of the beautiful scenery you discovered.  I #lovemydetour.  Do you?
Alright detourists…happy, beautiful travels!
